Adverbs
A word that modifies the meaning of a verb,an adjective or another adverb is called an adverb.There are five types of adverbs.
1.Adverbs of time answer the question ,when- I go to school daily.
2.Adverbs of place answer the question where-I shall wait here.
3.Adverbs of number or frequency answer the question,how often- Mary visits her friend once a week.
4.Adverbs of manner answer the question,how or in what manner- She treats the poor dog badly.
5.Adverbs of quantity or degree answer the question,how much or to what extent or in what degree- You speak English pretty well.
6.Adverbs of affirmation and negative- I will certainly attend the meeting.
7.Adverbs of reason- I therefore stopped talking to him.
8.Interrogative adverbs are used to ask questions- Why have you come?
9. Relative adverbs not only modify the verb but also relate or refer back to some antecedent like the relative pronoun.- This is the place where I met Anil.
Some adverbs may belong to more than one class.- They danced delightfully.( Adverb of manner) It was delightfully cool in Shimla ( Adverb of degree)
