I am very grateful to you all for inviting me to launch my new book called “Marked” which is book one of the ”House of Night” series. There are 6 books in this series which are- Marked Betrayed, Chosen, Untamed, Hunted, Tempted and Burned. Before I go into the details let me introduce myself formally. I am Phyllis cast. I am a teacher and live in Oklahoma. Most of my books have been written on paranormal romance and fantasy. It’s my favorite genre in the field of literature. I have written other series called “Goddess summoning” and “Partholon”. My book “Marked” is set in the modern world specifically in Tulsa because it’s my favorite place. This book is a piece of fiction as it’s about vampires and a slight tinge of magic. My target audiences are the teenagers interested in vampire fantasy and adventure.
Marked consists of many interesting characters even though the story line revolves around the protagonist called “Zoey”. The major characters are Erik, Aphrodite, Neferet and Stevie- ray. The minor characters are Jack, James, Damien, Erin, Shauee, Heath, and Kyla. The grandmother, Sylvia redbird, mother, father and Nyx are the background characters which have played an important role in the development of the plot. Background characters are characters who aren’t that prominent in the story.
This book is basically about an average teenager named “Zoey” who was marked and is going through the change of turning into a vampire. She has to leave her family and friends behind in order to attend the house of night where they prepare and train the young vampires to settle in their new life. Marked is all about the way zoey over comes the obstacles she faces during settling in her new life by using her extraordinary powers. As she is marked, she undergoes profound physical changes with the danger of death lurking behind if her body rejects these changes. Zoey discovers that she has extraordinary senses and powers. As usual there is a bit of drama, emotion and romance. Zoey meets a young good looking guy called Erik and surprisingly Erik is also attracted towards Zoey but they can’t begin their relationship because Aphrodite dated Erik before. Zoey lives in the house of night and experiences the reputation of the school and Aphrodite. Aphrodite thinks she is the “it” girl because she is so sure that she is going to become the next high priestess after Neferet. There is a twist to the story: zoey begins to realize that she has to teach Aphrodite a lesson because she is tired of seeing and getting ruled by Aphrodite. This doesn’t turn out to be an ordinary fight and as pathetic as it sounds. The only question which young vampires had in their mind was who is going to become the next high priestess and whose last day is going to be in both worlds?
Marked is suitable for the teenagers from 13 – 18 even though I am sure people of all age groups will enjoy reading the book. I have deliberately used swear words just to give it a teenager affect and to bring about the teenager flavor to the book.
My favorite part of the story, which I would like to share with you is (pg =23). I think this is a very interesting part of the story since this part has lots of emotions and typical teenager sentiments in spite of being a vampire. Zoey describes the changes she is going to experience using humor and sarcasm. For example she knows the classes aren’t going to be normal or the usual ones. She explains it with humor when she says “like ripping people’s throat out.” It also portrays the whole personality of the book. This part consists of foreshadowing because it’s like explaining what her life will be at the house of night and what changes she will face. I hope you are looking foreword to step into zoey’s thrilling life.
