Housing In Ancient Harappan India
Generally houses in Harappan period were one or two storeys high built around the courtyard. Most houses had a separate bathing area and wells to supply water. Many of the ancient cities had covered drains. These were laid out in straight lines. Each drain had a gentle slope so that water could flow through it.The drains in houses were connected to those on the streets and smaller drains led into bigger ones. Drains were covered, inspection holes were provided at intervals to clean them. The houses, drains and streets were planned and built together.
