Raw materials are converted into finished goods by an industry.There are many types of industries in India.
Cottage industries are set up by people in their own homes. A few people work with simple tools and use raw materials available nearby. Some such industries are weaving cloth on handlooms,extracting oil,grinding flour etc.
Small scale industries employ a few workers and use small machines.People work in a small factory.Such industries make utensils,garments,hosiery items and electrical and plastic goods.
Large-scale industries employ thousands of workers.The goods are produced on big machines on a very large scale.Highly skilled labour is needed.
India is one of the world's leading producers of cottton textiles.There are 2000 cotton textile mills located mostly around Mumbai,Ahmadabad,Kolkata,Kanpur,Madurai,Bangalore
Silk textile mills are located at Bangalore,Mysore,Kanchipuram,Coimbatore,Surat,Murshidabad,Varanasi and Bhagalpur.
Wollen textile mills are in Amritsar,Ludhiana,Panipat,Kanpur,Ludhiana.
Iron and steel industries are in Jamshedpur,Bhilai,Bokaro,Durgapur,Rourkela,Salem,Vishakhapatnam and Burnpur.
Jute mills ae located in Kolkata,Rishra,Titagarh,Haora,Budge Budge and Naihati.
Indian sugar mills are located in the states of UP,Maharashtra,MP ,Bihar,Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
The railway equipment industries are located in Chittaranjan,Varanasi,Kapurthala,Jamshedpur,Kolkata amd Perampur.
The automobile factories are located in Gurgaon,Pune,Chennai,Kolkata,Jabalpur,jamshedpur and Nasik.
Electronic goods industries are located in Bangalore,Mumbai,Chennai,Coimbatore,Pune,Lucknow,Kolkata,Delhi and Panchkula.
Ships are built at the shipyards of Kochi, Vishakhapatnam,Mumbai and Marmagao.
Aeroplanes are made in Bangalore,Lucknow,Nasik,Hyderabad and Koraput.
